SPARKLE
Graduate students finding relevant job app

HANNAH SAEEDI
Project Brief
Design an application that will provide a platform for freshers or recent graduates to apply directly to their dream companies. This application helps recent graduates to get in touch with hiring managers and recruiters directly.
Role
UX/UI Designer, UX Researcher & Visual Designer
Team
Group of 3
Timeline
(4 weeks)
Tools
Figma, Adobe Photoshop, Miro, Jira, Canva, PowerPoint, Excel
Problem Space
Some people are considered “unemployable” because we use outdated hiring standards. Sometimes there are high volumes of applications for job postings, and qualified candidates get screened out for unrelated reasons. How might the job application and hiring
experience be more inclusive and accessible?
Key Findings
I discovered from user interviews that freshers or recent graduates are frustrated during the first job recruiting process.
-
Finding a job without relevant experience after graduating is challenging for every student. Talented and hard-working students are frustrated because of job descriptions.
Some students change their majors and do not have relevant experiences for a new major. -
Many applicants apply without relevant certification and hiring managers can not recognize talented future employees.
Solutions
-
This application will provide a platform for freshers or recent graduates to apply directly to their dream companies.
-
This application helps recent graduates to get in touch with hiring managers and recruiters directly.
-
This application will also help to hire managers to filter out potential candidates by using an in-app screening test.
-
This application will require the applicants to spend 1-3 months internship as a prerequisite process! If the clients will make hard and soft skills efficient, the company or institute can recruit them.

Methods
In this project, I used Secondary and Primary research approaches such as Hiring articles and Industry association data, user interviews and usability testing.
The insights gained from interviews and research are used to create a User Persona.
I started brainstorming and came up with a name and branding for this application.
Considering all the findings, I designed a Low-Fidelity wireframe and did usability testing with 6 participants.
The findings from the usability testing were utilized to create the High-Fidelity prototype.
User Persona

Brainstorming
Based on the research findings, I created the application by combining illustration and text.
I thought how the user flows from the start of working with the application till the end would work. Then, I mapped out every step the user takes from the entry point to the final interaction. After this step, I started to plan for design details.
Based on the findings, I selected "Sparkle" as a name for this application. Because I thought graduate students could use this application and shine like sparkle light in their future careers.
Low-Fidelity Prototype
I sketched the Low-Fidelity prototype and put it on the Miro Board. I decided to have both sides:
-
Applicant
-
Hiring Manager
Usability testing feedback
-
Need to fix some links that are not working. There is confusion with an icon such as the notification and so on.
-
Need to add an overlay and more options for people to choose from.

Project Overview
FEATURES
-
Graduated students can find relevant job opportunities with their certifications.
-
Graduated students can show their qualifications by doing tasks and interviews.
-
Graduated students can see the recruiting process via the application.
-
The hiring manager can use this application to find qualified applicants with relevant certifications.

THE PROBLEM
Finding a job without relevant experience is a critical challenge for students. Unfortunately, most job offer descriptions are about having relevant experiences of at least 2-3 years.
Another problem is about people who are applying without relevant certification. This application could help the industry to recruit graduated and talented students with appropriate education.
PAIN POINTS FOR APPLICANT
-
Finding a job without relevant experience after graduating is challenging for every student.
-
Talented and hard-working students are frustrated because of job descriptions.
-
Some students change their major and do not have relevant experiences for a new major.
PAIN POINTS F0R HIRING MANAGER
-
Many applicants apply without relevant certification.
-
As a result, they can not recognize talented future employees.

USABILITY TESTING
Conducted usability tests on low-fidelity prototypes and got feedback from our participants.
We assessed our insights and started to notice patterns, which helped us decide what changes needed to be made to our high-fidelity prototypes.
SOLUTION
SPARKLE can offer job opportunities for graduated students. Applicants should pass tasks and interviews. Also, they should upload their graduate certification, resume and online portfolio. An applicant who accepts must spend three months on probation; after this period, an annual contract will be offered if both the company and the applicant are satisfied.
The hiring manager section can see accepted applicants and potential applicants with relevant certifications.

HIGH FIDELITY MOCKUPS
Refined the visual design and emphasized data visualization to our high-fidelity prototype based on usability testing:
1. Added Back and Next button
2. Added drop-down menu for companies and jobs
3. Added finding job opportunities to avoid confusion
4. Provided calendar for interview reschedule option.
